Corns

Corns are calluses that develop from an accumulation of dead skin cells on the foot.

Corns like calluses develop from an accumulation of dead skin cells on the foot, forming thick, hardened areas. They contain a cone-shaped core with a point that can press on a nerve below, causing pain. Corns are very common ailment that usually forms on the tops, sides or tip of the toes. Corns that form between the toes are sometimes called soft corns.

Corns frequently form on toes as a result of pressure or friction created from wearing shoes that are the wrong size, shape or fit. Shoes that are too short or narrow in the toe box can squeeze together toes causing excessive pressure and friction. Soft corns result from bony prominences and are located between the toes. They become soft due to perspiration in the forefoot.

Proper size and fit are critical. Cushioned shoes with extra room in the toe box can give your enough room to avoid cramping, pinching and squeezing. Moisture-wicking socks can offer additional padding as well as provide a healthier environment for your foot.
