Achilles Tendinitis

Achilles Tendinitis is inflammation of the Achilles tendon that often has micro tears, bones spurs or, rarely, a complete tear. Small tears weaken the area and cause inflammation. Constant pressure from overuse or strenuous activities is a contributing factor in Achilles Tendinitis.

Even though overuse is often to blame for Achilles tendon pain, over pronation and supination is often a contributing factor. Tight calf muscles, exercise on uneven surfaces and very soft shoes can also contribute to Achilles Tendinitis. Firm and supportive shoes with solid heel design can help elevate the heel area with cushioned stability. Heel Cups or Heel Lifts can also help elevate and protect your heels.

If your Achilles Tendinitis is a result of misaligned ankles, please refer to the topics on pronation and supination.
